Antonio Johnson Scouting Report
Johnson was a highly touted dual prospect (wide receiver and defensive back) coming out of high school, and the 4-star recruit eventually landed at Texas A&M. His 2020 campaign was limited due to injuries, but he broke out in a big way in 2021, racking up 8.5 tackles for loss, 5 passes defended and a forced fumble.
The Illinois native kept it up in 2022, setting a career-high in forced fumbles (3) while adding 5.0 TFL and 1.0 sacks.
Johnson's physicality on the field is obvious, as he regularly punished opposing ball carriers with big hits. Not just that, but the safety is also incredible at ball tracking, which allowed him to make play after play in the backfield. His burst was also apparent when tasked with blitzing for the Aggies.
Johnson's biggest weakness is in coverage. He'll need to improve on his route recognition and proficiency when tasked with helping wide receivers.
Antonio Johnson NFL Draft Prediction
Johnson's aggressiveness and ability to regularly get in the backfield will make him an asset for any defense at the next level. At 6-foot-2 and 198 pounds, Johnson has a great frame that should allow him to easily transition to the pros.
The Miami Dolphins are an intriguing landing spot for Johnson. Miami's secondary, which was riddled with injuries in 2022, was one of the league's worst last season. The Dolphins have already made the unit a focus this offseason by trading for Jalen Ramsey, and adding Johnson to the mix would complete their overhaul. He and Jevon Holland could instantly form one of the best young safety duos in the league.
Miami lacks a first-round pick this year, so they'll want a player that can make an impact right away like Johnson. The Dolphins' selection at No. 51 puts them in a prime spot to draft him.
Prediction: Miami Dolphins (Round 2, 51st overall)
