Up until late this week, the Minnesota Vikings still held hope that Anthony Barr and Christian Darrisaw would suit up for Week 1. Both dressed in full pads for Wednesday's practice, but those hopes came to a crashing halt on Friday.

Minnesota announced that Barr and Darrisaw are out for their Week 1 matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals. Barr continues to deal with a knee injury while Darrisaw nurses a groin ailment.

Fortunately for Minnesota, their Week 1 opponent is one of the more favorable matchups on the schedule. Cincinnati holds just +12000 odds to win Super Bowl 56, and this is a very beatable team that likely won't finish in playoff contention.

Regardless, Minnesota enters the game as just 3-point favorites on FanDuel Sportsbook and will particularly miss this duo.

Barr, the proven linebacker, missed all but two games last season with a pectoral muscle tear. But his absence leaves Minnesota without a seven-year veteran who owns 423 career tackles and 36 tackles for loss.

The offensive line also takes on a new look this season. Two starters (Riley Reiff and Dakota Dozier) are no longer on Minnesota's roster. Darrisaw, the No. 23 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, slots behind Rashod Hill on the depth chart but was expected to make an impact. After all, Hill has never eclipsed more than 53% of offensive snaps throughout his six-year career in Minnesota.

The line suggests that Minnesota should be all right without the duo of Barr and Darrisaw in Week 1, but these injuries are worth watching if they leak into later weeks of the season.
