Adam Thielen Injury Update Clouds Divisional Round Fantasy Outlook Against 49ers

Adam Thielen spent most of the regular season banged up. He first went down with an ankle injury in Week 7, aggravated it early in an attempted Week 9 return, and didn't get in a full game until Week 16.

He was back at full strength in time to drop 129 yards in the Wild Card Round, but suddenly he's back on the injury report ahead of an NFC Divisional Round matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

This could be a terrible break for the Vikings, because a healthy Thielen is their top wideout. He showed that in Weeks 1 through 5, when he saw 30 targets and Stefon Diggs recorded 23. He then showed it again last week, out-targeting Diggs nine to three.

Kirk Cousins and the Vikes' passing game will need all the help they can get this week, as the 49ers are a terrible matchup.

San Francisco checks at No. 2 in Football Outsiders' pass defense DVOA metric, and from a fantasy football standpoint, the 49ers allowed the 12th-fewest PPR points to receivers and 10th-fewest to QBs in the regular season.

This limited practice may have just been a precaution, but we'll have to keep a close eye on his status on Thursday.

A healthy Thielen checked in at WR4 in our Divisional Round fantasy rankings, but if he's still banged up on Saturday, Thielen and Cousins will both get a downgrade.
