Crowded backfields are always hard to navigate, so it makes sense that the Philadelphia Eagles have been frustrating fantasy football players since day one.

There really isn't much that separates Jay Ajayi and Wendell Smallwood from one another. Both have pretty much received the same amount of snaps (54 to 51 advantage for Ajayi) this season. However, Smallwood might be the better option even though Ajayi leads the team in rushing.

Despite having less rushing yards than his backfield-mate, Smallwood's done a lot more with the rushing attempts he's been given. The third-year back is averaging an impressive 5.6 yards per attempt this season while Ajayi owns a pedestrian 4.2 yards per attempt average. However, where Smallwood really has the edge over Ajayi is in the passing game, having been targeted more than twice as much as his counterpart.

Smallwood is the right Eagles running back to start this weekend, especially in PPR leagues. His usage in the passing game and the fact that he's done more with the opportunities he's been given gives him a much higher upside.
