The Dallas Cowboys are one of, if not the, most storied franchises in NFL history. The organization has won a whopping five Super Bowls, tying them with the San Francisco 49ers for the second-best mark ever.

Of course, a franchise can't reach that level of success without having some all-time great quarterbacks. With that in mind, let's break down the three best quarterbacks in Cowboys' history.

3. Tony Romo (2004-16)

Tony Romo had his fair share of ups and downs at the NFL level, but he actually has the fourth-highest career passer rating in NFL history (97.1). He only trails Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson and Drew Brees, and is slightly ahead of Tom Brady, who is widely considered the greatest QB of all time. He never found a way to win a Super Bowl ring, but he finished his career with a 78-49 record, and has franchise-best marks in passing yards (34,183), touchdowns (248) and is third in career wins.

2. Roger Staubach (1969-79)

Roger Staubach has a legitimate claim to be the best passer in franchise history. A two-time Super Bowl champ, Super Bowl MVP and a six-time Pro Bowler, Staubach will forever be a Cowboys' legend. He's third all-time in Cowboys passing yards (22,700) and fourth in touchdowns (153). At his best, he might be the greatest passer in franchise history, though he only had eight full seasons as the team's starter, which dings his resume a bit.

1. Troy Aikman (1989-00)

It's close, but Troy Aikman gets the slight edge over Staubach here. Aikman won three of the team's five Super Bowls, and like Staubach he was a six-time Pro Bowler and a Super Bowl MVP. Aikman has a franchise-best 94 career wins, leads the organization with 4,715 pass attempts and ranks second to Romo in passing yards (32,942) and touchdowns (165). Aikman was the No. 1 overall pick in 1989, yet he managed to deliver on that hype and then some.
