Yankees Trade Rumors: Byron Buxton and Andrelton Simmons Linked

Despite the New York Yankees' recent success over the past couple weeks, they still aren't where they need to be from a record or roster standpoint ahead of the July 30 MLB Trade Deadline.
They currently own a 50-44 record, sitting 7 games back of the first-place Red Sox in the AL East. With plenty of MLB-ready (or close to it) talent in the minor league ranks, the Yankees definitely have the ammo to make one or more impactful moves at the deadline.
With rumors flying about both players available and players the Yankees could target, Joel Sherman reported the Yankees have "asked about" Twins star center fielder Byron Buxton and shortstop Andrelton Simmons, as well as OF Max Kepler.
Per @Joelsherman1, the #Yankees have “asked about” #Twins CF Byron Buxton and SS Andrelton Simmons. The #Yankees are also interested in #Twins OF Max Kepler, if he’s available, as well as a number of unnamed left-handed hitters in the #Twins lineup.

Yankees News
The Yankees are in need of outfield help, plus left-handed hitting to help balance their heavy right-handed lineup. That's one reason they have been linked to Texas Rangers star Joey Gallo as well.
Buxton is an interesting piece, as his talent is clearly through the roof, but he has tremendous injury concerns, only playing over 100 games once in his career. With he and the Twins failing to come to an agreement on a contract extension, the Yankees could see this as an opportunity to buy low on a really talented player.
Simmons could prove to be a useful infield depth piece, especially since Tyler Wade or Rougned Odor haven't exactly enamored people on the field this season. Kepler fits the lefty outfield mold the Yankees are seeking. He also has some pop in his bat with 12 homers this year in 62 games, someone who could really take advantage of Yankee Stadium's short porch in left field.
Whatever the Yankees end up doing, it seems like they are active in exploring any and all options to improve their roster for the second half and become the World Series contenders they entered the season as.
