As most baseball fans are aware, Aaron Judge is the top free agent available this offseason. After failing to come to an agreement on a contract extension last offseason with the star right fielder, the New York Yankees are still hoping to keep him in pinstripes.
Aaron Judge Contract Offer
The Yankees' opening offer has now been revealed, and it's a big one. It is reportedly an 8-year, $300 million deal. That represents a huge jump from New York's final offer of seven years and $213.5 million before the 2022 season started, which Judge rejected.
Judge made that number look comical by putting together one of the best offensive seasons in MLB history. This contract is no joke, however, as it would make him the highest-paid position player by average annual value ($37.5 million).
With the Winter Meetings approaching, the free agent market is only just starting to heat up. It would be surprising if this is the final number Judge signs at, but it's a good and fair initial offer from New York. Expect that number to go up a bit once other teams get involved, but the Yankees will likely match any offer to make sure the reigning AL MVP spends the rest of the decade in the Bronx.
