The New York Yankees are preparing for another attempt at ending the franchise's World Series drought in 2023. Before that, however, several of their players are gearing up for the upcoming World Baseball Classic.

Nestor Cortes Injury Update

Unfortunately, All-Star pitcher Nestor Cortes Jr. won't be one of those players now. The Yankees lefty starter has opted out of the WBC -- where he was set to play for Team USA -- due to a hamstring injury.

Cortes dazzled last year for New York after breaking out towards the end of 2021. He was arguably the team's best pitcher, going 12-4 with a 2.44 ERA in 28 starts.

While it was a well-earned honor for Cortes to pitch for Team USA, trying to help the Yankees win their 28th championship is much more important and he needs to be healthy to do that.

New York currently has the second-best odds to win the 2023 World Series (+650) on FanDuel Sportsbook's latest MLB odds.
