The Boston Red Sox opened the 2022 MLB season being close to a top-10 betting option when it came to World Series odds. Fast forward to today and the Red Sox are 10-17, sitting in sole position of last place in the American League East.

Fans have been frustrated by Boston's play and it's getting to its players as well. Following Friday's 4-2 loss to the Chicago White Sox, veteran Xander Bogaerts said that the Red Sox's current slump "is not fun" and that he doesn't know " how it's possible with this lineup that we’re playing like this."

The Red Sox have been plagued with a lack of offensive support as they've averaged 3.41 runs per game (No. 25) so far this season. Bogaerts added that the bats need to come alive soon because the club's pitchers can't win every game with a complete-game shutout.

"We know what we’re capable of but it’s been tough not being able to put it in a stretch of a couple of games in a row."

Bogaerts has been one of the Red Sox's best positional players so far this season. The 29-year-old shortstop has 34 hits, two home runs and 10 RBIs in 99 at-bats while batting .343 so far this season.

Meanwhile, players like Jackie Bradley Jr., Alex Verdugo, Trevor Story and Enrique Hernandez are all batting .219 or worse in 2022. Considering how the quartet has combined for just four HRs, it's safe to say that Boston's struggles could be helped if one or two of those players step up soon.

The Red Sox look to avoid their fourth straight loss when they play the second game of their series against the White Sox on Saturday. Boston's struggles are expected to continue with FanDuel Sportsbook listing the club as the +116 moneyline underdog at home.
