The Chicago White Sox are set to enter the 2022 MLB season in hopes of winning their first World Series in 17 years. They'll have a lot of time to build momentum up ahead of the postseason and that all begins with Opening Day this week.

It was previously unknown which starting pitcher would take to the mound for their season opener Friday against the Detroit Tigers. Fortunately, White Sox fans don't have to wait much longer now that the club has announced that Lucas Giolito will be Chicago's 2022 Opening Day starter.

White Sox Opening Day 2022

Giolito has been nothing but consistent ever since the Washington Nationals traded him to the White Sox back in December 2016. Since then, he's been named to the MLB All-Star game in 2019 while finishing top-11 in American League Cy Young voting in each of the last three seasons.

The White Sox are hoping that Giolito performs similarly as he did in 2021 when he pitched a career-high 178.2 innings. He ended up going 11-9 in 31 starts last season, recording a solid 3.53 ERA and 1.103 WHIP while averaging 10.1 strikeouts per nine innings pitched.

Chicago's 2021 AL Cy Young finalist Lance Lynn (knee) is expected to be injured until mid-May, meaning the club will rely on Giolito to be the organization's interim ace for the time being.

Giolito having a solid outing on Opening Day will do a lot to start the White Sox's season off right after FanDuel Sportsbook has given them +950 odds (No. 3) to win the 2022 World Series.
