White Sox's Yermin Mercedes Has Already Set Incredible MLB Record

There's no doubt about it — Yermin Mercedes is the biggest breakout star in the first week of the 2021 MLB season.
The Chicago White Sox' rookie has started the season going 8-of-8 from the dish. That has set an MLB record.

That's not just an MLB rookie record, either. That record stands among all players.
Luis Robert may be the most high-profile youngster on the White Sox' roster, and he's off to a solid start to the year as well (1 double, 1 RBI, 1 stolen base across two games). But Mercedes has stolen the show.
These aren't just run-of-the-mill singles Mercedes has racked up, either. The 8 hits include 2 doubles and 1 home run, with 6 RBI tallied during the streak.
Mercedes showed some real promise in his 53 career Triple-A appearances as well, slashing .310/.386/.647 with 17 home runs and 62 RBI across 220 plate appearances.
The White Sox are already one of the favorites among World Series contenders in 2021, and adding another dangerous young bat to the mix certainly won't hurt their chances.
