Not much has gone right for the Chicago White Sox as they currently sit under .500 with a 27-31 record. Taking advantage of the MLB Trade Deadline could be a way for them to turn things around and insider Mark Feinsand listed the White Sox as a potential trade fit for reliever Carl Edwards Jr.
Chicago White Sox Trade Rumors
Edwards fits the mold of a bullpen rental contending teams should be looking to add. He will be a free agent at the end of the season and is stuck on a Washington Nationals team that cannot sustain any consistent success. Their front office should be looking to deal him before the deadline.
It's worth mentioning Edwards is also in the midst of one of the best seasons of his career. After allowing three earned runs in his first appearance of the year, the 30-year-old has given up just one run in 16.1 innings pitched since. Opposing batters are hitting just .111 against Edwards in 2022.
The White Sox's biggest need may just be their relief core. Chicago owns the seventh-highest bullpen ERA in baseball (4.39) and has blown 12 save opportunities so far. Edwards lines up to be the reliable setup man manager Tony La Russa has been searching for to pair with closer Liam Hendriks.
The White Sox need to start turning things around fast or else they are in danger of missing the MLB Playoffs entirely. Mixing up the roster could be the boost this team needs. For now, Chicago has odds set at +2500 to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
