As the Chicago White Sox look to strengthen their stranglehold over the AL Central division, the team revealed that they'll be without one of their veterans for the next stretch. The White Sox announced on Monday that outfielder Adam Engel was placed on the 10-day injured list with shoulder inflammation. It's just another injury to add to the list of ones that have held Engel to just 33 games played this year.

Adam Engel Injury Update

While a lot of White Sox fans could be hoping that this is the last of Engel's injury woes, you have to understand if some are skeptical. After all, the 29-year-old he's only played in 158 of Chicago's 340 games (so far) over the last three seasons. Considering how that's just 46.5% of possible contests and with Engel entering his 30s this year, you have to wonder if he can ever consistently stay healthy going forward.

In the 33 games that he has appeared in this season, Engel has recorded 6 doubles, 7 home runs and 18 RBIs while slashing .248/.339/.505. Considering how he has a career-best .844 on-base plus slugging percentage, the White Sox will certainly miss his presence in the lineup.

Chicago will be without Engel as they begin a four-game series against the Oakland Athletics on Monday. It'll be a tough test, especially as the White Sox are 3-7 straight up in their last 10 contests against the Athletics. FanDuel Sportsbook is favoring Oakland to win Monday's game at -112 odds, while Chicago is the slight underdog at -104.
