The Minnesota Vikings' wide receiver room saw a significant shakeup this offseason with the release of Adam Thielen. Now, head coach Kevin O'Connell must figure out ways to take the pressure off star wideout Justin Jefferson, who'll become an even bigger focus for opposing defenses.

Well, it turns out O'Connell is reuniting with a former player to help improve the team's WR options.

The Vikings are signing wide receiver Brandon Powell to a one-year deal, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. This adds a speedy weapon that can contribute to both the offense and special teams, considering his returner background.

O'Connell is very familiar with what Powell can do, as the two crossed paths on the Los Angeles Rams in 2021. That team went on to win the Super Bowl with Powell starring as a return threat, taking a punt to the house (against Minnesota, no less) and averaging 26.0 yards per kickoff return.

In addition to providing a potential punt return option, Powell could also be used on gadget plays for the offense. He handled a career-high 41 touches in 2022, which he turned into 236 yards from scrimmage.

Powell's no Thielen replacement, but his flexibility could be valuable to Minnesota. He'll look to challenge for a roster spot by showing the variety of ways he can contribute in camp.
