Patrick Surtain II was viewed by many as the top cornerback in the 2021 NFL Draft after he starred at Alabama. So when he fell into the Denver Broncos' lap at No. 9, they were thrilled to select him. And early signs out of training camp have been impressive.

On Wednesday, we got a visual of just how impressive when the Broncos and the Minnesota Vikings participated in a joint practice. It gave Surtain a chance to show off his skills against an actual opponent rather than his teammates, and he looked as good as advertised.

Surtain absolutely shut down a Vikings wideout, allowing almost zero separation and then swatting down the ball for an incompletion.

If he can put together coverage like this consistently, he will lock down one side of the Broncos' pass defense. And now playing in a division that has him go up against Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert and Derek Carr twice a season, the Broncos will need every bit of that.
