Sunday could not have gone any worse for the Denver Broncos. They lost to the previously winless Las Vegas Raiders, stud running back Javonte Williams left with a potentially serious knee injury, and veteran RB Melvin Gordon looked like a shell of himself.
After the game, Gordon was pressed about his lacking ball security this season, and he decided to just walk away from the press conference.
The veteran was clearly upset by his performance, and this question seemed to be too much to handle fresh off of a dud outing. It was shocking to see the normally very amiable and open Gordon so dejected.
Ball security has been a serious issue for the former Pro Bowler in 2022. He lost a fumble in Week 1, coughed the ball up twice in Week 3, and then lost another fumble in Week 4. His struggles opened up an opportunity for backup Mike Boone to log his highest snap percentage (36%) of the season.
All eyes will be on the Broncos' backfield after Williams' injury. It sounds like their starter could be forced to miss significant time, meaning it'll partially be on Gordon to lead the ground game. He's at risk of being succeeded by Boone, though, if he doesn't get his fumbling problem under control.
