It remains to be seen what kind of role wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling will play on the Green Bay Packers offense this season. His 2021-22 campaign did get started off on the right foot as he burned cornerback Jaire Alexander 1-on-1 during training camp for a long touchdown.

Packers News

Valdes-Scantling took over on this play as he beat Alexander to the middle of the field using a flurry of moves before breaking the tackle and going all the way. It would be huge for the three-year pro to step up on the outside and give quarterback Aaron Rodgers another reliable receiving threat.

It's important to point out that Alexander doesn't get burned like that too often. The dynamic ballhawk was named to his first Pro Bowl last season after posting 51 tackles, 1.0 sack, 13 pass breakups and 1 interception. He is used to shutting down opposing wide receivers every single week.

The Packers know that the potential is there for Valdes-Scantling given he averaged a league-high 20.9 yards per reception in 2020 and scored a career-high 6 touchdowns. All he needs to do is figure out how to get consistently open as he is set to play on the last year of his rookie deal.

It'll be interesting to see how Valdes-Scantling progresses as Week 1 kickoff quickly approaches. He has an outside shot to jump Allen Lazard on the depth chart if he continues to impress.

For now, the Packers are favored to repeat as NFC North champions with odds set at -155 to take home the division title, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
