VIDEO: First Look at Trey Lance at 49ers Minicamp
By Larry Rupp
The San Francisco 49ers are just two seasons removed from a Super Bowl appearance, but will need improved quarterback play if they want to get back there again. Starter Jimmy Garoppolo has dealt with injuries throughout his career and now the team has brought in some young competition as well.
The 49ers made a huge deal to move up from the No. 12 overall pick to the No. 3 overall pick in order to select North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance. While his potential is enormous, the risk surrounding Lance is just as high. Fans got their first look at the young signal-caller at the 49ers rookie minicamp this past week.

This was a general warmup type of video, but Lance definitely looked at home out on the football field. San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan has yet to fully commit to Garoppolo this offseason, which means Lance may have a chance at the starting gig sooner than people think.
Despite only playing in 19 college games, Lance's talent was obvious throughout his collegiate career. He completed 65.4 percent of his passes for 2,947 yards and 30 touchdowns. Plus, Lance showcased his dual-threat capabilities by rushing for 1,325 yards and 18 touchdowns as well. The 49ers could cash in big time if they are able to correctly develop Lance at the NFL level.
Lance may not start right away, but he still has the fourth-best odds to take home the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award at +900, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
There is no question that Lance and the 49ers will be one of the more interesting storylines to follow all the way up until the next NFL season kicks off in the fall.
