It's been a tough last decade or so for the New York Giants and their fans. The team has missed the playoffs in each of the last four seasons and eight times in the last nine years overall. With some minor offseason adjustments, fans were hoping that the Giants could get back on track in 2021.

However, some of that good faith was wiped away on Thursday after third-year quarterback Daniel Jones' latest training camp blunder.

During a passing play at practice, Jones threw the ball right down the middle of the field and into a defender's hands. While the ball was ultimately dropped, Jones' decision was a head-scratcher considering none of his receivers was in the vicinity of the pass.

It's unknown whether the poor decision was just a bad choice on Jones' part or if he was seeing "ghosts on the field" like other signal-callers have claimed. Whatever the reason was, it doesn't change the fact that Jones' blunder has fans concerned, especially following his poor play last season.

After a promising rookie campaign, Jones regressed in 2020. He finished the season with 2,943 passing yards and just 11 touchdowns to 10 interceptions despite starting 14 games. He also struggled once again when it came to ball security, as proven by his 11 fumbles.

With next year's NFL Draft boasting promising quarterback prospects like Spencer Rattler and J.T. Daniels, the 2021 season could be Jones' last chance to prove to the Giants that he deserves his job before they look elsewhere.

FanDuel Sportsbook is projecting the Giants' playoff drought to continue as they're favored to miss the postseason at -300 odds. In other words, Jones will need to play his best football to date to help reverse those odds.
