After spending all 12 of his NBA seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies, Mike Conley was sent to the Utah Jazz via trade on Wednesday. Conley's arrival has certainly impacted Utah's odds to win the 2020 NBA Finals.
Prior to Wednesday's trade, the Jazz were eyeing +4200 odds of winning the 2020 NBA Championship, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. However, after news of Conley's new home was announced, the Jazz's odds of winning next year's NBA title soared to +3000.
This improvement elevated Utah to having the seventh-best odds of winning the 2020 NBA Finals among Western Conference teams.
Most notably, the Jazz now have better odds of winning it all this year than the Portland Trail Blazers (+3500).
While the Grizzlies received Grayson Allen, Kyle Korver, Jae Crowder, the No. 23 overall pick, and a protected future first-round draft pick in return for Conley, Memphis didn't get the same sort of love from the oddsmakers.
Memphis opened with the second-worst odds of winning next year's championship at +25000, which is exactly where the Grizzlies remained in the wake of this trade.
Even though the oddsmakers appear to favor Utah's shake in this deal as of now, who knows which team will come out on top in this trade down the road.
