Two Rookies Beating Patrick Mahomes in Jersey Sales for 2021 Season
Patrick Mahomes is considered the current face of the NFL, at least in many circles. He's on the verge of NFL history entering just his fourth year as a starting quarterback. But, that hasn't stopped several fanbases from rallying around the next wave of NFL stars.
In fact, two NFL rookies are beating Mahomes in jersey sales for the 2021 season, according to data from Fanatics since Aug. 1. It's a pair of rookie quarterbacks looking to step in as the next face of their respective franchises, Mac Jones and Justin Fields.
Jones is the obvious choice in this matter. August was a busy month for the former Alabama Crimson Tide gunslinger as the New England Patriots opted to go separate ways with starter Cam Newton and hand their rookie the starting gig.
The other rookie is a more interesting choice. Fields kicks off his rookie season on the bench for the Chicago Bears. He was equally impressive during the preseason, but the Bears aren't ready to hand him the keys to the franchise just yet. Andy Dalton will be starting in Week 1 and head coach Matt Nagy has stood by his decision to run with Dalton at the start of the year.
As is expected, the next generation of potential stars entering the league is a crop of quarterbacks. The 2021 NFL Draft class was especially quarterback heavy with five gunslingers going in the first 15 picks. Most of these QBs kick off the year as No. 1 options on the depth charts and the future is certainly bright.
Jones enters the year with +450 odds to win Offensive Rookie of the Year on FanDuel Sportsbook while Fields comes in with +650 odds.
