The month of May hasn't been easy on the Minnesota Twins and their fans. The Twins spent the majority of the month without centerfielder Byron Buxton, who was off to a ferocious start in 2021. Starting pitcher Kenta Maeda also went down with injury near the end of the month while the team sustained below-average baseball with a 13-16 overall record.
Buxton's injury rehab even hit a snag in its proposed timeline, however, it seems like things are back on trade for this pair of injured Twins. According to Dustin Morse of the Twins communications team, both Buxton and Maeda are scheduled to begin rehab assignments this upcoming week.
Twins Injury Update
Both will suit up for the St. Paul Saints, the Twins Triple-A affiliate later this week with Buxton beginning his assignment on Tuesday and Maeda starting the following day.
Buxton hasn't played since May 6th as he's been shelved with a hip strain. Prior to the injury, he was hitting .370/.408/.772 with 9 home runs and 17 RBIs through 24 games. Maeda, on the other hand, has been out since May 22nd with a right adductor strain/sore right arm. He's pitched to a 5.27 ERA and 2 wins in 9 starts.
