There's plenty of optimism buzzing around the Minnesota Twins heading into the 2022 season. The free-agent signing of star shortstop Carlos Correa headlined Minnesota's offseason, which should be a major boost as this team hopes to rebound after a down 2021 campaign.

Opening Day is the perfect time to start building momentum, and the Twins will put one of their best on the mound to kick off the year.

Second-year pro Joe Ryan has been named Minnesota's Opening Day starter, the team announced Thursday. Recent trade acquisition Sonny Gray is still ramping up his work in the lead up to the regular season, and Kenta Maeda is out indefinitely, clearing the way for Ryan to start.

Ryan made his MLB debut last September after being a seventh-round pick by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2018. He landed in Minnesota via the Nelson Cruz trade last year and started five games for the Twins, posting a 2-1 record and 4.05 ERA across 26 2/3 innings.

Minnesota will begin its year at Target Field against the Seattle Mariners on April 7. Hopefully the home-field advantage helps Ryan and company start the season with a strong performance.

The Twins own +4500 odds (No. 17) to win the 2022 World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
