The Minnesota Twins had hoped Byron Buxton's injury troubles were behind him. The star outfielder was an early MVP candidate before suffering a hip injury in May. A series of setbacks in his recovery kept Buxton out of the lineup for six weeks, but he finally returned this weekend and looked like his old self.

Now the injury bug is back.

Byron Buxton Injury Update

Buxton was hit by a pitch in Monday's game, and tests confirmed the centerfielder now has a fractured hand. It is a serious blow for the Twins and their star after he just made his long-awaited return.

Buxton racked up 4 hits across 11 at-bats in his three games back from the injured list. That included a double and a home run that helped lift the Twins over the Texas Rangers on Sunday.

There's no telling how severe Buxton's injury is right now, though a lengthy stint on the IL once again seems to be in the cards. This injury news could deflate a Minnesota team that's rallied to win their last five games and currently sits fourth in the AL Central with a 31-41 record.
