A surprise thumb injury has plagued Miami Dolphins stud rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, allowing veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick to assume starter duties once again. However, Tagovailoa is set to be the Dolphins' starter in Week 13, which crushes Fitzpatrick's fantasy football outlook.
Ryan Fitzpatrick Fantasy Outlook
Fitzpatrick has been the better fantasy producer so far, averaging 17.8 fantasy points per game (PPR), but he's been in an unstable situation after losing his starter duties in Week 8 before regaining them with Tagovailoa sidelined.
He provided more fantasy scoring upside, crossing 19.0+ fantasy points in five games this season, including a stretch of four straight such performances from Weeks 2-5. Fitzpatrick was one of the best streaming QB options while he was starting, but he's not worth rostering with Tua back in the fold.
Tua Tagovailoa Fantasy Outlook
Tagovailoa has helped lead his team to wins, but he's taken on more of a game-manager role. The young QB is averaging just 14.5 completions for 148.3 yards in his four starts this season. On the plus side, Tua has thrown 6 TDs and 0 interceptions.
Tagovailoa has produced like a low-end QB2 so far, averaging just 12.28 fantasy points per game over his four starts. The rookie has two single-digit scoring outings in four games, showcasing his volatility.
For fantasy managers in need of a QB, proceed with caution when considering Tagovailoa in this week's lineup. He does, however, have a favorable matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 13, who are allowing 18.43 fantasy points per game to QBs this season.
