Trevor Bauer is the top pitcher on the free-agent market this offseason and the list of potential suitors seems to be growing by the day. Bauer himself seems to have given no true indication on where he could end up and is open to any and all possibilities.

Bauer is known as a guy who bucks the trend and doesn't approve of these "unwritten rules" baseball has. He's not here to entertain the boring traditional ways of baseball and the conversations around it that have seemed to limit the sport's popularity in recent years.

Bauer has spent much of his offseason trolling various teams by hinting at his possible free agent destinations. The two teams in New York are expected by most to be in the running for Bauer, and he knows it.

So when Mets president Sandy Alderson made a comment about Bauer's potential in New York, the star pitcher jumped on the opportunity to make a joke.

He has done similar things earlier this offseason with both the Yankees and Red Sox. He has even gone as far as saying he would be open to playing for the Mets during one of his Instagram live sessions.

For a lot of people, Bauer is someone you love or hate, and playing in New York has the possibility to amplify that persona. Bauer would relish in that. He has strong convictions, he's smart, and understands the problems with baseball and what the fans want.

Bauer's personality should be a welcomed part of the next generation of baseball, not diminished. While this might be just a little bit of trolling fun, it's another example of how Bauer is trying to buck the trends in baseball and create a new normal, a way to get the fans more interested in America's pastime, because it needs it.
