The Houston Astros have dominated the AL West Division since the start of the 2022 MLB season, showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. With the MLB trade deadline approaching in a few weeks, the Astros have a great opportunity to improve their roster even more in case of a potential World Series run.

MLB insider Andy Martino reports that the Astros are interested in adding an All-Star bat to their lineup ahead of the Aug. 2 deadline. The player in question is none other than Washington Nationals slugger Josh Bell.

Astros Trade Rumors

Despite Houston's dominance this season, the team is only averaging 4.44 runs per game — good for 14th-best in the MLB. Even though that's far from the worst mark, it's much lower than other contenders are averaging.

If the Astros pursue Bell, they'll face some competition. Martino lists the New York Mets as a potential suitor and it's easy to see why. Bell's 50 RBIs are the highest total on the Nationals while his 13 home runs only trail Juan Soto (20).

The 29-year-old's switching-hitting ability is something that the Astros could use. He's batting .317 against righties and .301 versus southpaws this year, proving it doesn't matter who's on the mound when he's up to bat.

Another thing about Bell is that he's a free agent once the 2022 season concludes. Rental players are usually cheaper, so the Astros would be thrilled knowing that they don't have to break the bank to add an All-Star bat to their lineup.

Astros World Series Odds

The Astros are already a top pick to win the 2022 World Series and adding Bell would help bring them one step closer to that goal. For now, Houston has the third-best odds (+450) to win this fall's championship, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
