Opening Day for the 2022 MLB season is nearly here, filling the baseball world with excitement. Although fans are looking forward to seeing the returning players, it's always a thrill to see a young player make the Opening Day roster.
It turns out that's the case for top Boston Red Sox prospect and right-handed pitcher Kutter Crawford, who'll start the year in the majors. The 26-year-old had a strong Spring Training, making him more than deserving of a roster spot to kick off the 2022 campaign.
Red Sox Opening Day 2022
A former 16th-round pick in 2017, Crawford has impressed this spring. He's pitched 4.0 innings over three appearances for the Red Sox, recording a 2.25 ERA, 1.000 WHIP and an absurd 18.0 strikeouts per nine.
Although it's a small sample size, the rookie clearly has the tools to be a top reliever to begin his career.
The Red Sox's bullpen was one of the reasons behind their success last season. Boston's 2021 relievers combined for a 3.99 ERA, which ranked sixth best in the American League. If Crawford reaches his potential this season, the Red Sox could be in for a similar performance.
Fans won't have to wait long to see the exciting reliever make his first appearance of the year. Crawford and the Red Sox will open the 2022 MLB season on the road with a matchup against the New York Yankees on Thursday, April 7 at 1:05 p.m. ET.
