The 2022 NFL Draft is officially less than two weeks away, leaving many fans wondering what the Detroit Lions will do with the second overall pick. After all, only 11 combined wins over the last three seasons suggests that there are many areas for the organization to address.
Address the quarterback situation for the future might be one route that the Lions take. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Friday that one of the team's final pre-draft interviews will be with Pittsburgh Panthers QB Kenny Pickett.

Furthermore, Post-Gazette Sports' Brian Batko has since described Pickett as having "the right demeanor" to excel as a quarterback in head coach Dan Campbell's system.
Although this year's QB class isn't star-studded, Pickett is one of the best prospects at his position. Many experts seem to be listing him as a top-20 pick, however, few (if any) have suggested he be taken second overall.
Nevertheless, Pickett grabbed a lot of attention last season with a career year that saw him finish with 4,319 passing yards and 42 touchdowns (to seven interceptions) on 334 completions. Adding him to the mix with Detroit's young wide receivers could have the Lions set for years to come.
Jared Goff is already slated to be the Lions' starting quarterback in 2022, however, he's likely already reached his ceiling. While he still has three seasons remaining on his contract, he'll only carry a $10 million dead cap hit if he's bought out in 2023 and $5 million if it happens in 2024. Needless to say, the Lions have options if they want to draft a QB this year.
Only time will tell who the Lions will select at No. 2 this month. As it stands, FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL Draft Odds favor that player to be Michigan EDGE Aidan Hutchinson at +125 odds.
