It's often said that to be a great NFL cornerback, you need to have a short memory. The same is true for fantasy football writers –– an equally challenging and impressive profession.
There's no way around it, we blew it last week. Two of our three streaming QB picks (Jameis Winston & Mac Jones) finished outside the top-25 QBs in Week 2. One, Teddy Bridgewater, did manage to crack the top 12, though.
But if Kevin King can get re-signed after that NFC Championship Game, we can bounce back with a strong Week 3. Here are our top-three streaming QB options, rostered in fewer than 50% of Yahoo! leagues, to target this week.
Streaming QB Fantasy Football Week 3
3. Sam Darnold, Carolina Panthers (15% Rostered)
Marvel is currently running an animated series called What If...? Each week, the show explores what would happen if a small change was made to Marvel's continuity (i.e., what if Captain America died in World War II, etc.). At this point, I'm convinced the premise of the next episode will be "what if Sam Darnold was actually good?" Finally surrounded by legit weapons, the former New York Jet is balling. He's currently fantasy's QB14 and has put up at least 18.9 fantasy points each week. And one of those performances came against a New Orleans Saints' defense that looks like one of the best in football. He now draws a soft matchup against the Houston Texans. What if Darnold is actually a QB1 this week?
2. Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders (27% Rostered)
A matchup with the Miami Dolphins isn't exactly a cakewalk. But Derek Carr is probably going to be a fixture on this list until he's rostered in the proper amount of leagues. The guy has been a flat-out stud, leading the league in passing yards (817) while throwing 4 TDs to 1 INT. In fact, he's got 128 more yards than the next-closest passer (Kyler Murray). Miami is also more vulnerable than you might think, having surrendered 281 yards and a TD to Mac Jones in Week 1. Fantasy's QB8 thus far should have no trouble staying hot Sunday.
1. Jimmy Garoppolo, San Francisco 49ers (10% Rostered)
The Green Bay Packers defense might just be atrocious. It's obviously a small sample size, but Green Bay has the league's seventh-worst pass defense by DVOA and has allowed the league's sixth-highest passer rating through two weeks. Keep in mind they've only faced Jared Goff and Jameis Winston. That's not good. This could be a blow-up spot for Jimmy Garoppolo, who is only rostered in 10% of leagues.
