Houston Astros pitching prospect Hunter Brown has been sensational all year for the Triple-A Sugar Land Space Cowboys, and that was the case again on Sunday.

Brown turned in one of his most dominant performances of the year, firing 3 1/3 hitless innings against the Las Vegas Aviators. He did not allow any runs while issuing two walks and striking out four.

With MLB rosters expanding on Thursday, the question is now whether Houston will reward their No. 1 prospect (per MLB.com) with a call-up to the big leagues. The 24-year-old right-hander has gone 14-5 with a 2.98 ERA and 189 strikeouts in 157 innings at Triple-A since being promoted from Double-A last year, so he appears ready.

The Astros also have a nice cushion in the standings with an 11.5-game lead over the second-place Seattle Mariners, although they're still fighting to maintain their edge over the New York Yankees for the top seed in the American League. Houston is currently favored to win the AL pennant at +155 on FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB odds.

While they don't have an obvious need for starting pitching help at the moment, the Astros could still let Brown come up and pitch out of the bullpen to get exposure to MLB hitters. If that goes well, he could earn a more prominent role on the 2023 team and beyond.
