MLB is not yet done finalizing the official 2023 free agent class. On Friday, the league's non-tender deadline approaches at 8 p.m. ET.

Clubs around baseball use this opportunity to either tender or not tender contracts to the 250 players eligible for salary arbitration. Essentially, if a team believes one player is not worth what they will receive in arbitration, they'll non-tender that player a contract to clear a roster spot and release them into the free agency pool

MLB insider Mark Feinsand created a list of the 11 most likely non-tender candidates, and one Detroit Tigers infielder made the list.

That player is corner infielder Jeimer Candelario. Candelario has spent six of his seven MLB seasons with the Detroit Tigers, including a breakout year during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. He slashed .297/.369/.503 in 52 games that year before posting a league-leading 42 doubles in 2021.

His offense regressed significantly in 2022, however, as his OPS crashed to .633 -- the lowest full-season mark of his career. As Feinsand points out, the veteran infielder also struggled on defense, grading as 6 outs below average at third base.

With a projected arbitration salary worth $6.35 million, the inconsistent Candelario may no longer fit into Detroit's long-term plans.
