A 2022 MLB season filled with shortcomings has the Detroit Tigers set to miss the playoffs for the eighth straight year. There's still a chance to finish the season strong, but they'll have to do so without Miguel Cabrera for the foreseeable future.
Tigers insider Evan Petzold reported on Friday that Cabrera is day-to-day with a biceps injury. He'll be re-evaluated in the coming days, but at the very least will be absent when Detroit hosts the Kansas City Royals on Saturday.
Miguel Cabrera Injury Update
Fellow Tigers reporter Evan Woodbery says that the plan is for Cabrera to meet with doctors on Saturday. The hope is that the two-time AL MVP isn't dealing with anything serious enough to require a stint on the injury list.
Cabrera's injury forced him to exit Friday's game against the Royals during the bottom of the seventh inning. What's concerning is that it's the same bicep that the 39-year-old ruptured during the 2018 campaign, holding him to just 38 total games that year.
With the Tigers not having much to play for, it'll be interesting to see if Cabrera can return by the end of the season. Bouncing back from any injury would have been easier a few years ago, but getting healthy is harder when you're almost 40.
Cabrera has had varying levels of success this season. Although his four home runs and 37 RBIs in 102 games are both far cries from his best season, he's had some bright spots, including his 3,000th career hit and 12th MLB All-Star appearance.
Hopefully, Cabrera has a speedy recovery and isn't forced to prematurely end his iconic career on a down note.
