The Detroit Tigers haven't given their fanbase much to cheer about during the 2022 MLB season. Detroit sits in fourth place in the AL Central standings with a 38-57 record, and is a full 13.0 games back in the Wild Card race.

One bright storyline was veteran Michael Pineda's start to the year. The 33-year-old starting pitcher tossed to a 3.58 ERA through the middle of July. Although one bad start against the Cleveland Guardians on July 16 inflated his season number, he's been one of the more effective members of the starting rotation.

Unfortunately, Pineda was hit with the injury bug on Saturday night.

The big righty left his start against the Minnesota Twins on Saturday after just three innings. Tigers insider Evan Woodbery confirmed this bad news on Sunday with his latest injury update.

According to Woodbery, Pineda was placed on the 15-day IL with right tricep soreness. Angel De Jesus was promoted in a corresponding move.

Pineda is no stranger to injuries this season. The veteran spent a stretch of time on the IL back in late-May with a finger fracture.

Detroit will have to eat up innings during Pineda's absence. For now, the Tigers hold longshot +50000 odds to win the AL Central division on FanDuel Sportsbook.
