Missing the MLB playoffs in eight straight seasons has brought more changes to the Detroit Tigers' coaching staff. The Athletic's Cody Stavenhagen reports the names affected by the second wave include trainer Doug Teter, senior director of medical services Kevin Rand and strength coach Steve Chase.

Stavenhagen says that Teter will "transition to a role" in Lakeland, FL with the team's Single-A affiliate. He's the only one of the trio returning to the organization, though. Detroit has decided not to renew Rand, while Chase simply "is not returning" for the 2023 season.

Out of three names, Rand's departure is the biggest change. He had spent over 20 years in a medical role for the team, but Detroit's chronic injury woes this season spurred the desire for a chance.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch told the Detroit Free Press back on Oct. 7 that the organization needed to improve its medical department. He stressed that the medical process must be "unilateral across the organization" and that the team can "probably enhance" how things are done.

Nevertheless, this isn't even Detroit's first coaching staff overhaul of the month. Hitting coaches Scott Coolbaugh and Josh Paul were dismissed earlier in October. Meanwhile, hitting coach Mike Hessman and third base coach Ramon Santiago were offered minor-league roles.

All of these changes shouldn't come as much of a surprise since Scott Harris was hired as the new president of baseball operations in September. Harris probably wants to start fresh after the Tigers' last eight years of futility and will likely do what he can to give Hinch the best staff possible.

Detroit will also look to add to the roster during free agency, which opens once the World Series concludes. In addition to filling out the coaching staff, hopefully Harris and co. find players to help the team put an end to its playoff drought.
