The Detroit Tigers took a step back during the 2022 season, finishing fourth in the AL Central with a disappointing 66-96 overall record. But the organization is already taking steps at improvement for 2023. Several Tigers prospects are playing in the Arizona Fall League, getting important reps against other talented players.
It turns out several of those prospects will be represented at the AFL All-Star Game this Sunday.
Three Tigers will be playing at the All-Star game, including infielder Colt Keith, as well as pitchers Tyler Mattison and Joey Wentz.
In 16 games, Keith is slashing .314/.456/.431 with three doubles, 15 walks and 6 RBIs. The 20-year-old played up to High-A this past season and is the No. 6 rates prospect in Detroit's system.
The 23-year-old Mattison has thrown 10.1 innings across 9 games. Opposing batters are hitting just .162 against the righty. Wentz, a 25-year-old lefty, hasn't allowed a single run across 3 starts, and struck out 14 batters in 12.0 IP.
Continued improvement from the organization's top prospects will give fans hope for the 2023 campaign. Tigers fans can catch this trio of All-Stars in action on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 4 p.m. ET on MLB Network.
