The Buffalo Bills have slowly but surely built a solid team from top to bottom, and they'll looking to contend in the AFC this season. While the expectations are high for this club, a slow start to the 2020 season could quickly change their mindset.

A slow start in the AFC could turn a contender into a seller, especially since they are asked to compete with the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens, who were both powerhouses last season. Should Buffalo start the season slow, we could see defensive end Jerry Hughes on the trade block.

Hughes has had a productive NFL career, but heading into his 11th NFL season, the clock is ticking on the veteran. If the Bills do not think the can compete for a Super Bowl this season, it would make sense to trade Hughes to a contender, getting whatever assets that can for him before his talent falls off a cliff.

Trading Hughes next season would also trade a contract that has a potential out after this season, then one year left on the deal. It would free up over $7 million of cap space for next season, which will allow Buffalo to be more aggressive in free agency and fill their holes to compete in 2021.

Despite turning 32 before the season, Hughes has continued to be productive. He totaled 4.5 sacks and six tackles for a loss last season. The veteran has also never missed a game during his seven years in Buffalo.
