The Washington Football Team Made Two Laughable Mistakes in Their Name-Change Press Release

It's official, the Washington football team's long-time name and logo are finally set to be retired. The long-criticized branding was put under official review on July 3, and while no new team name has been decided on yet, the franchise has confirmed that there will indeed be one.

In typical Washington fashion, however, the official press release to announce the change really missed the mark.

They've finally come around to the fact that their name and logo are too offensive to continue representing the team, but apparently they're not too offensive to load up on in the press release.

The very first thing on the page is the logo in the top left corner, and the slur "Redskins" appears a full seven times in the less-than-one-page release.

Admittedly a couple of the references appear in things like the team's website and the official address, but maybe if you're officially announcing that you don't want this term representing your franchise it would be best to come up with a different header for the press release in which you're announcing that?

Of course, Washington has never been a franchise known for their strong front office or wise off-field moves, so this blunder probably isn't too surprising to most football fans.

Botched press release aside, this change is long overdue and it will be exciting to see what the organization settles on as a new name.
