The Houston Texans' offseason just keeps getting more disappointing. They seemed to have shored up their interior defensive line by signing Tim Jernigan back in April, but that deal was apparently never made official. And now it has fallen through.

Once again with a need at defensive tackle, the Texans need to turn their attention to signing defensive tackle Mike Daniels.

At 31 years old and coming off an injury-plagued 2019 season, Daniels should be available on the cheap, but he could still be a solid contributor.

In nine games with Detroit, Pro Football Focus gave him an overall grade of 70.1 in 2019, and he graded out well against both the run and the pass. He hasn't put up particularly impressive stats over the last two seasons, but that grade shows he's still a capable force on the interior.

The Texans did add a defensive tackle with their second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, but entering the season without some competition and depth next to Ross Blacklock would be a risky proposition, as Eddie Vanderdoes hasn't exactly shown much promise.

Whatever their back-up plan is with Jernigan not signing, the Texans need to act quickly. The 2020 season is going to be a make-or-break one in Houston.
