When Tua Tagovailoa went down with a gruesome hip injury in late November, there was some concern he might never be the same. Fast forward to late February, though, and the reports on his recovery have been overwhelmingly positive.
While the Miami Dolphins have long been thought to be interested in taking Tua with the No. 5 pick, there could be plenty of teams competing for his services thanks to this latest update. With that in mind, let's take a look at three teams that should try to trade up ahead of the Dolphins to take Tagovailoa in the 2020 NFL Draft.
1. Los Angeles Chargers
With Philip Rivers officially out of the picture, the Los Angeles Chargers have a glaring need at QB. There have been plenty of rumors about the team pursuing a veteran, like Tom Brady, but Los Angeles could always look to find a long-term solution in the draft. Tua would be just that. Armed with the No. 6 pick, the Chargers wouldn't have to trade up too far, and they do have all their picks this year, giving them plenty of ammunition to make a deal.
2. Las Vegas Raiders
The Las Vegas Raiders have shipped off high-level talent like Amari Cooper and Khalil Mack in recent seasons. As a result, this team is absolutely flush with assets, and they could put together an enticing package for Tua. Derek Carr didn't exactly solidify his status as the long-term starter for the team in 2019, and while he was solid at times, his future with the Raiders is far from certain. If Jon Gruden wants to make a splash in his first year in Las Vegas, going all-in for Tua could help this team hit big.
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Bruce Arians hasn't exactly been shy about his feelings regarding Jameis Winston this offseason. With the former No. 1 overall pick's future with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers looking uncertain, at best, they could be looking to make a move at QB. There have been plenty of rumors connecting TB to either Rivers or Brady, but it's hard to imagine either signal-caller joining the team. With the No. 14 pick this year, Tampa Bay would likely have to give up an unprecedented amount of draft capital in order to get in the running. But for a player of Tua's caliber, nothing should be off the table.
