2021 Super Bowl Ratings Take Massive Dive

The Super Bowl is without fail the most-watched television event in the United States pretty much every year. In fact, of the top-30 most-watched television broadcasts in US history, the Super Bowl is responsible for 29 of them. The series finale of "M.A.S.H." is the only thing preventing a clean sweep, it currently ranks 9th on the list.
With the pandemic interfering with virtually everything in life this year, the NFL and the Super Bowl were no different. Without the large Super Bowl parties happening this year, or the lack of attention on the sports world in general, it was expected Super Bowl ratings would take a dip this year, despite an abundance of great storylines and two of the more interesting teams facing off in the big game.

Well, the numbers have come in and they certainly are down, coming in at an estimated 96.4 million viewers. However, as cord-cutting becomes more popular, a streaming viewership record was set. If this estimation holds, it would rank as the 15th most-watched US television broadcast. The Seahawks-Patriots Super Bowl XLIX currently holds the No. 1 spot at roughly 114.4 million viewers.

It will be interesting to see if this number changes over the coming days, as it is currently just the early estimation. However, with this much of a dip, it seems as though the pandemic has hit the NFL's ratings for its biggest night just as it did for the NBA earlier this year.
