The Pittsburgh Steelers will be fighting for their playoff hopes when they square off against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 18 of the 2021 NFL season. Unfortunately, the "Black and Gold" will likely be without their top wide receiver when that game takes place.
The Steelers announced Thursday that Diontae Johnson — along with center Kendrick Green — has been placed in COVID-19 protocol. That's sure to be a blow for a Pittsburgh team that's struggled with offense this season (20.4 PPG, 21st).
Diontae Johnson COVID News
The NFL announced an updated COVID policy at the end of December that requires asymptomatic individuals who test positive — regardless of vaccination status — to isolate for five days before returning to the field.
The same goes for symptomatic players, however, their symptoms "must clear at least 24 hours since their last fever" and have the rest of their symptoms improve before they return.
Considering how Johnson was placed into protocol on Thursday, his prospects for playing on Sunday seem slim unless it turns out that his result was a false positive.
Johnson has been in the middle of his best season to date. The 25-year-old wideout has set career highs in receptions (100), receiving yards (1,110) and touchdowns (8).
