Sports Illustrated Predicts Surprise 49ers Player to Make First Pro Bowl
The 2021 NFL season is just around the corner in the fall and it is never too early to start thinking about which players will break out for their respective squads.
Well, Sports Illustrated believes San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is in for a big season as well as a Pro Bowl nod.
Aiyuk was the 49ers' first round draft pick in 2020 and put together quite the rookie season. The former Arizona State Sun Devil hauled in 60 of his 96 targets for 748 yards and 5 touchdowns in 12 games played (11 starts). It's safe to say he showed flashes No. 1 WR potential in Kyle Shanahan's offense — especially with Deebo Samuel struggling to stay healthy.
The dynamic dual-threat ability of Aiyuk is what really makes him shine. He posted 77 rushing yards on 6 carries last season and scored 2 touchdowns on the ground as well. The 23-year-old was able to post an above-average level of production despite having three different quarterbacks running the offense.
With a full offseason to improve and develop his skills, Aiyuk could take a major step up in 2021. Stability at the quarterback position is coming and he could even receive a boost if rookie Trey Lance takes over. In that case, Aiyuk would almost certainly become the young signal-caller's go-to target.
All things considered, everything seems to be in line for Aiyuk to surprise some people next season and become a household name in the NFL. The 49ers currently have the fourth-best odds to win the Super Bowl at +1300, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
