3 Seahawks Veterans That Could be Training Camp Cuts
By Tristan Jung

If NFL training camp goes off as scheduled, the Seattle Seahawks could have some difficult decisions to make on their roster.
As happens with many NFL teams, the Seahawks have some veterans that are in danger of being cut due to salary cap and roster constraints. The Seahawks currently rank right in the middle in 16th in available cap room, but they still have some roster moves to make before the season begins. Here are three veterans who could be cut in training camp.
1. Chance Warmack, G
After winning a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017 and staying through 2018, Chance Warmack missed the entirety of the 2019 season to get healthy. He's back with the Seahawks on a one-year deal, but there's no guarantee that he'll be anything more than a backup. The Seahawks are desperate for offensive line help, but the former first-round pick is an unknown quantity at this stage of his career. If he gets beaten out in training camp, the Seahawks might choose to cut him and let him sign somewhere else.
2. Jason Myers, K
Jason Myers signed a big four-year, $15.45 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks after a brilliant season with the New York Jets in 2018. The contract made him one of the highest-paid kickers in the NFL, but he regressed back to his career average in 2019. His field goal percentage dropped from 91.7 to 82.1, and his kickoff average also dropped by 2.3 yards. It might not be worth it for the Seahawks to keep him. In 2018, Myers was cut during training camp by Seattle, so a surprise move to cut him wouldn't be unprecedented. A release would bring over $2 million in savings.
3. Geno Smith, QB
Geno Smith served as the Seattle Seahawks' backup for all of 2019, but he didn't see a single snap during the regular season. The former New York Jets quarterback was brought back on a one-year deal, but his roster status is threatened by undrafted Washington State star Anthony Gordon, who also signed with the Seahawks in 2020. Smith will need to prove himself in the race to be Russell Wilson's backup in 2020. Pete Carroll generally goes with veterans, but Gordon's success at Washington State could be Smith's undoing if Carroll opts for the more high-upside backup.
