Buffalo was slammed by a massive snowstorm late last week, covering parts of the city in as much as six feet of snow. This caused the Bills to move their Week 11 game out of the western New York town and play the game at Ford Field in Detroit.
That plan didn't go off without a hitch though. The Bills' plane was scheduled to take off that afternoon, but the airport was still closed and the team had to get to the airport, but they were all snowed in.
Eventually, the airport opened, and Bills Mafia got to work doing what they do as the best fans in the NFL. Videos and pictures surfaced of the people around Buffalo going to players' houses and helping shovel their driveways so they could get out and head to the airport. It was truly a massive team effort and there's no telling if the team would have ever even made it to Detroit without the help from its fans.
Head coach Sean McDermott made sure top give them their proper credit following the Bills' Week 12 win, even dedicating the victory to the kind people of Buffalo.
"Everyone back in Buffalo who helped us get here, how much we appreciate them and thankful for them. And everyone back in Buffalo who's currently digging out, again, we're thinking of you guys and that was for you."- Bills head coach, Sean McDermott
It was truly an incredible and impressive act that Bills Mafia pulled off on Friday, showing how much a great fan base and being a good person can mean. They weren't there to get pictures or a quick chance at going viral. Those people were there for two reasons: to help get their beloved Bills to the game on time, and to show it's not hard to be a good neighbor. Buffalo and its fans have always embodied that, which is why it's arguably the strongest connection between a team and its fans in all of American sports.
The fans that helped shovel everyone out on Friday didn't seek or need the credit given to them publicly by the team and McDermott, but they sure as hell deserved it.
Buffalo is set to come home for a few days before returning to Detroit for their Week 12 Thursday Thanksgiving game against the Lions, where the Bills are 9.5-point road favorites, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's latest NFL odds.
