Seahawks Super Bowl Odds Don’t Budge After Claiming Josh Gordon Off Waivers

After being waived by the New England Patriots, Josh Gordon could be had by another NFL team. While the Miami Dolphins, Cincinnati Bengals and Washington Redskins had the top waiver claims, it wasn't until the Seattle Seahawks, a team with a 6-2 record, that Gordon was nabbed off the waiver wire.

That means that 27 other teams passed on making a claim for the embattled WR. The Seahawks added a talented pass catcher to their receiving corps, something that should help them on the field. However, adding Gordon didn't improve their odds to win the Super Bowl (+3000), according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

After losing tight end Will Dissly to an Achilles injury, Russell Wilson and the Seattle offense has had a void in the passing game. Claiming Gordon off of waivers gives Wilson another option to complement Tyler Lockett and help balance out the team's solid rushing attack.

NFL Super Bowl Odds

While the move didn't change Seattle's odds to win the Super Bowl, it could turn them into a bit more of a contender in a crowded NFC. Other NFC teams ahead of them in the odds, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, are the New Orleans Saints (+500), San Francisco 49ers (+700), Green Bay Packers (+1000), Minnesota Vikings (+1800), Dallas Cowboys (+2000), Philadelphia Eagles (+2200) and Los Angeles Rams (+2500).

The New England Patriots remain the AFC and Super Bowl favorites, with +250 odds to win another Lombardi Trophy. The Kansas City Chiefs have the next-best odds (+1300) among AFC teams.

Gordon isn't expected to suit up in Week 9, but his presence on the field could ultimately make a difference in a potential Super Bowl run for the Seahawks.
