Seahawks' Backup Plan at QB is Bad News if Russell Wilson Leaves

The ongoing Russell Wilson trade rumors have been one of the biggest stories of the NFL offseason.
With Dak Prescott getting the franchise tag, Wilson joins Houston Texan Deshaun Watson as the only star quarterbacks that needy teams have a real shot to acquire this season, so the Seahawks could command a big return on the trade market.
That same market means they will not have many options of their own if they do trade Wilson, though. And Pete Carroll's latest comments are not an encouraging sign.

Seahawks Rumors: Sam Darnold
Sam Darnold has been one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL since entering the league in 2018. Across three seasons (38 starts) he has averaged just 5.9 adjusted yards per pass attempt (AY/A) — a mark that 30 of 36 qualifying quarterbacks topped in 2020. And Darnold's 2020 was especially bad, as he had the second-lowest AY/A among qualifying passers.
NFL coaches never seem to be able to resist the allure of a former top-five draft pick, but it's not often we've actually seen a change in scenery be enough to salvage the career of a draft bust.
The Seahawks organization and roster would certainly put Darnold in a better position to succeed than he had with the New York Jets, but downgrading from one of the NFL's best starting QBs to one of the worst is not something that Seahawks fans can be too excited about.
