Saratoga Horse Racing Picks for Friday 9/2/22

Starting at 1:05 p.m. ET, we have 11 races Friday at Saratoga. Using 
numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets to make at FanDuel Racing.

As always, check the program at "The Spa" for scratches and changes, and monitor the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).

Saratoga Betting

According to numberFire Racing's projections, these are the best bets to make at FanDuel Racing today.

1. Security Code and Banterra, Race 6

Race 6 is a Maiden Special Weight for 2-year-old NY-bred fillies sprinting 6 furlongs. This looks like a matchup between two fillies who finished second on debut, and the numberFire data agrees. Security Code (2/1) breaks from the outside No 10 post with Tyler Gaffalione riding. She exits the faster race having chased the winner, who won a stakes race next start.

Banterra (3/1) finished second to a talented winner when crossing the wire 6 lengths behind. But she's training well since and can improve her speed figure with leading jockey Flavien Prat taking over.

2. Thin White Duke and Big Package, Race 8

Race 8 is the $150,000 Lucky Coin Stakes for older horses sprinting 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf. There are 7 runners after the favorites Wudda U Think Now (6/5) and Wendell Fong (3/1) both scratched with the race staying on the main dirt track.

That leaves Thin White Duke (5/1) and Big Package (7/2) as the numberFire picks ahead of the favorite, Voodoo Zip (5/2).

3. Angitude and Mischievous Diane, Race 9

Race 9 is the $250,000 Prioress Stakes for 3-year-old fillies sprinting 6 furlongs. Hot Peppers (7/2) is the tepid favorite and top pick, by numberFire's algorithm. She finished a strong second in the Grade 1 Test Stakes, and will be running along the lead with Jose Ortiz riding.

The race looks like it has plenty of pace, and numberFire also projects Half Is Enough (10/1) and Angitute (4/1) to hit the board. Angitude could also take some money off her third-place finish in the Wilton Stakes. That was a 1-mile race, but she's a proven sprinter. Angitute along with Mischievous Diane (12/1) and Union Lake (8/1) are win contenders as longshots.
