Saratoga Horse Racing Picks for Sunday 8/21/22

Starting at 1:05 p.m. ET, we have 10 races Sunday at Saratoga. Using 
numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets to make at FanDuel Racing.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).

According to numberFire Racing's projections, these are the best bets to make at FanDuel Racing today.

1. Grand Love and Rarify, Race 6

Race 6 is a Maiden Special Weight for 2-year-old fillies at 6 1/2 furlongs. The favorite is Rarify (5/2) with Jose Ortiz riding, but top challenger Spelterini (7/2) is the top pick by numberFire's algorithm. Grand Love (4/1) is a first timer with good breeding and works, and Joel Rosario rides for leading trainer Steve Asmussen.

Rarify is a daughter of Triple Crown winner Justify, and she ran well to finish second in her debut with good morning works since. Spelterini made a good closing move to finish second on debut and should be included in exacta and trifecta wagering.

2. Reigning Spirit and Mud Pie, and Race 7

Race 7 is an Allowance race at 1 1/2 miles on the inner turf. Check for rain and if the race stays on the turf, then Balthus (2/1) will be favored for EPO trainer Chad Brown. But Mud Pie (6/1) will shoot to the front and try to save more energy after blistering through fast fractions and tiring to finish third last race.

Reigning Spirit (7/2) with Joel Rosario riding is the top pick of numberFire. He finished second last race in a graded stakes in May with a top speed figure.

3. Redifined and Danse Macabre, Race 9

Race 9 is the $150,000 Bolton Landing Stakes for 2-year-old fillies sprinting 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf. The favorite Love Reigns (2/1) with leading jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. will take money as the favorite and top pick, according to numberFire data.

Danse Macabre (5/1) moved forward and won her second start last race on the turf with a better speed figure. Redifined (8/1) broker her Maiden on debut nearly two months ago and has some solid works since.
