Due to unprecedented winter conditions forecast for Southern California through this weekend, Santa Anita Park has canceled Saturday and Sunday’s racing programs prior to entries being taken for either day.  The track had already postponed the Friday, Feb. 24 racing card, which was a makeup day not originally on the calendar.

Santa Anita Races Canceled

Blizzard warnings have been issued for the San Gabriel Mountains behind the historic track with snowfall expected at the 1,000-foot level.  It is the first blizzard warning ever issued in Los Angeles County.  The storm, which is expected to begin late Thursday morning, is forecast to drop six inches of rain through Saturday.

The decision to cancel both days out of an abundance of caution was made in consultation with industry stakeholders, including the Thoroughbred Owners of California, the California Thoroughbred Trainers Association and the California Horse Racing Board. The safety of the jockeys and competitors remains a priority.

Racing will resume on Friday, March 3 with a big schedule of racing on Sat. March. 4. FanDuel Racing has you covered for the biggest racing days, which include Grade 1 races during the Championship Meet on March 4 -- the Santa Anita Handicap and Frank E. Kilroe Mile.

Also on March 4 is a Kentucky Derby Championship Series race featuring the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes for 3-year-olds on the Road to the Kentucky Derby, along with the Grade 2 Buena Vista Stakes for older fillies and mares.
